Statement of Acting Chair Ann Marie Buerkle
August 1, 2019 - Today, the Accessibility Equipment Manufacturers Association (AEMA) and the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) join me in warning consumers with home elevators and visitors to homes with elevators to protect small children from a deadly gap that may exist between the doors. The distance between the inner elevator car door and the room access door (hoistway door) on home elevators may be too wide, allowing a small child to enter the space and close the room access door without opening the elevator car door. If this happens, the child can be seriously injured or killed when the elevator moves.
Residential elevators are commonly found in multi-level homes, townhomes, vacation homes and rentals, and in large homes that have been converted to inns or bed-and-breakfast hotels.
CPSC is aware of several tragic incidents in which children became entrapped between the doors leading to serious fractures, traumatic asphyxia, and lifelong injuries.
We are urging consumers to have a qualified elevator inspector examine their home elevator for this dangerous gap and other potential safety hazards, inspecting to the latest safety standard, ASME A17.1-2016, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators.
Dangerous gaps can be eliminated by placing space guards on the back of the room access door or installing an electronic monitoring device that deactivates the elevator when a child is detected in the gap. We also urge consumers to contact their elevator manufacturer or an elevator installer to obtain these critical safety devices and protect children from this hidden hazard.
We advise consumers to report any safety incident involving residential elevators at: www.SaferProducts.gov.
If the gap is too large, a small child can become entrapped between the room access door and the elevator car door.

15 - 18 October 2019 I Exhibition Centre Augsburg I Germany
Welcome to Lift-City - Augsburg is looking forward to the interlift 2019 exhibitors and visitors from all over the world! / The programme in the interlift 2019 VFA Forum is already set up
Augsburg – So far more than 530 firms from 42 countries have registered their participation at the world’s leading forum of the lift branch. The interlift 2019 project management assumes that probably between 560 and 600 exhibitors will ultimately present their innovations in Augsburg. But one thing is already certain: the interlift 2019 will present the largest offer of innovations and further developments to date. This has become possible through the new exhibition hall 2; with 8,500 square metres largest hall in the Augsburg Exhibition Centre from now.
Augsburg greets the guests from all over the world
Anyone coming to the interlift in October will first be confronted with the branch’s leading trade fair at other places in Augsburg too. Whether welcome greetings at the main station, interlift flags at central points in the inner city, huge posters along the approach roads to the town, interlift trade fair guides in hotel rooms or the “Welcome to Lift-City” headrests in the Augsburg taxis – they all signalize that the citizens of Augsburg are looking forward to the most important trade fair of the lift branch!
Augsburg has much to offer – in many respects
Augsburg is an attractive town that has a lot to offer. For example gastronomically. After all, with the “August” a 2-star house and the “Maximilians” (Drei Mohren), a 1-star house, are resident here. Anyone who enjoys eating out in an upscale way has the choice between the “Magnolia”, the “Lustküche” or the “Eckestuben”. The “Bauerntanz”, the “Kälberhalle” or the “Tafeldecker” have offers typical for the region. A traditional Bavarian atmosphere can be enjoyed in the “Riegele” or the “Berghof”. And there is of course a huge selection of international restaurants here – a glance in the Trip Advisor or similar platforms are thus always helpful.
At the interlift itself, the Regio Augsburg is available to give tips in this direction. Trips to attractive nearby outing locations such as Neuschwanstein Castle, the Bavarian Lake District or city tours can also be booked here directly.
VFA Forum interlift ´19: The programme is already set up!
The visitor figures clearly demonstrate the continued increasing interest in the information platform, where in compact 20-minute lectures experts examine topical issues from the world of lifts. In 2017 more than 10% of the trade fair visitors took the opportunity of gaining information about international developments in the branch. At the interlift 2019, lecturers can again reckon with more than 2,000 visitors to the forum.
Approximately 50 lectures on very different international themes will be offered in the forum. The main focus in 2019 is on the subject of digitalisation and in this way reflects the current worldwide transition in the branch. In addition to this, the currently most interesting lift markets will be examined. Within a short time, trade fair visitors to the forum can acquire a compact,
well-founded overview of the latest developments in European and international policies as well as product innovations in everything to do with lifts.
Visiting the forum is free-of-charge for trade fair visitors; the lectures will be interpreted simultaneously from German-English or English-German. (Programme www.vfa-interlift.de and www.interlift.de)

15 - 18 October 2019 I Exhibition Centre Augsburg I Germany
interlift 2019: Organizer AFAG continues to expand service offers for exhibitors and visitors / Arrival: reductions through partnerships with the Lufthansa Group and Deutscher Bahn (German rail)
Augsburg – In 2019 the interlift organizer AFAG is offering more services than ever before to visitors from all over the world. In addition to the shuttle bus lines from Munich airport and main train station in Augsburg, a further connection to the bus station in Munich (near the main train station) will also be set up. All three lines bring trade fair visitors non-stop directly to the interlift. The timetables will be available online as a download from September at the latest.
Convenient for exhibitors: the new Online Service Center
From February 2019 interlift exhibitors can conveniently arrange all the services for their trade fair participation via a new online system. Technical services, furnishings and booth equipment, flooring material, cleaning and waste disposal as well as media technology, staff and hotel rooms can be booked via the new Online Service Center – a trendsetting and resource-conserving innovation.
The AFAG and your service partners take care of the implementation of the ordered services and carry this out with their usual reliability and quality. Exhibitors can obtain information in the system at any time about the current status of their ordered services and can download current booth layouts, hall plans and invoices here. But it is also possible for the exhibitor himself to upload documents, such as electric power layouts, for example. In addition to this the system supports the exhibitor in keeping a check on his trade fair budget.
Attractive offers from the trade fair partners Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn (German rail)
As interlift airline partner the Lufthansa Group offers you reduced air fares. You can find the booking link at www.interlift.de/anreise.
The Lufthansa Group offers a global route network connecting up all the world’s larger metropoles. Incidentally you can also obtain these reduced fares from your IATA travel agent. Anyone travelling by train also has advantages if he books his ticket via the interlift homepage.
Make sure you secure your visa and accommodation on time
Exhibitors and visitors often underestimate the time needed for a visa application. Prerequisite for obtaining a visa is an invitation to the interlift from the project management; only then can an application for a visa be made. And here one should reckon with at least four months.
Accommodation should also be organized on time, for the hotels in and around Augsburg are quickly booked out during the interlift. The Regio Augsburg Tourismus GmbH offers competent support in searching for accommodation, also via their online booking system (at www.regio-augsburg.de). You can reach the Regio Augsburg by phone at +49 (0)821 – 5 02 07-31/-34 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
