CAT™ Certification Using the Candidate Option

The CAT™ Candidate Program is a 2-year self-paced education certification program. The program is structured to meet Federal Apprenticeship requirements (144 classroom hours/2,000 on-the-job training annually). Each candidate must have access to a  CAT-S to administer the program.

Qualification Requirements for CAT™ Candidates

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. At least 18 years of age.
  3. Approval of completed Candidate Application. 
  4. Annual fee of $125 NAEC member / $525 non-member (does not include coursework)
  5. Access to a CAT-S.

The Program:
CAT™ Education Program consists of five courses and will take approximately 2 years to complete.  Most courses will consist of 3 basic parts: text based workbook, skills verification and web-based courses.  The courses can be purchased from Elevator World.  Each course will require successful completion of a Unit Exam.  Each Unit Exam will be taken on-line under testing conditions in accordance with NAEC guidelines.  The exams will contain multiple-choice questions randomly chosen from the study questions at the end of each chapter of the unit.  A student must score 85% or higher to pass the exam.

Upon successful completion of the 2-year program the candidate will be required to pass a CAT™ Final Exam.  The exam will contain multiple-choice questions randomly chosen from the course exam questions.  The exam will be taken on-line under testing conditions in accordance with NAEC guidelines.  A student must score 85% or higher to pass the exam.  Upon successful completion of all the Unit Exams, all required Skills Verifications, all required Web-based courses and the Final Exam, the candidate will become a CAT™ (Certified Accessibility and Private Residence Lift Technician).  He will be issued a CAT™ photo ID card.  By December 31st of each year a CAT™ will be required to successfully complete 10 hours of continuing education in order to maintain his certification.
